In the popular beach resort of Sandown stands Battery Gardens; originally a World War II defence to protect from invasion, the fortifications still exist and have been transformed into a peaceful garden. There’s fantastic views across the English Channel. The gardens have toilet facilities and a small children’s playground. Battery Gardens is also the start of the clifftop walk that stretches through Lake and on to Shanklin.
